Now that Donald Trump has admitted he cannot pay the bond in the appeal of the New York civil fraud verdict, New York Attorney General Letitia James may have the ability to seize the former president’s assets. Last month, James already indicated this possibility by saying, “If [Trump] does not have funds to pay off the judgment, then we will seek judgment enforcement mechanisms in court, and we will ask the judge to seize his assets.”
The complexity arises from Trump’s vast real estate portfolio, pushing the question forward – which assets should James seize?
Former Trump White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham shared some insights on CNN, detailing which properties, if seized, might upset the former president the most. According to Grisham, 40 Wall Street might be one of the top targets, whereas seizure of Mar-a-Lago, Bedminster, Trump Tower, Sterling golf course in Virginia or any of the golf course properties would ‘absolutely devastate him’.
Trump’s hope now is a rescue from the New York Appellate Division. But considering hisemergency motion to stay the judgment has already failed, the odds of retaining his property are dwindling.
Ultimately, it will be interesting to observe which assets James targets, if the seizure proceeds, and how it will impact Trump’s financial and personal standing.
