The Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB) confirmed the detention of 11 individuals following the horrifying terrorist attack on Crocus City Hall, a popular music venue situated on Moscow’s outskirts. The arrestees reportedly have ties to the ISIS-claimed strike that resulted in an alarming death toll of over 133 civilians. Out of the 11 apprehended, four directly participated in the attack, according to the FSB’s report.
Allegedly, the perpetrators attempted to flee towards Ukraine post-attack but were later arrested in the Bryansk region. Contradicting these assertions, Ukraine, which had been implicated due to the suspected escape route chosen by the terror suspects, has formally disclaimed any involvement in the shocking incident.
The assailants stormed Crocus City Hall moments before a concert was about to commence. Brandishing automatic rifles, they rapidly opened fire and set the venue ablaze. Heartrending footage shared on social media captured the appalling scenes of attackers shooting defenseless concertgoers seeking refuge along the walls. The subsequent inferno, which took many hours to douse, led to concerns of the building’s potential collapse. The Investigative Committee of Russia announced that smoke inhalation led to the demise of several victims.
Adrienne Watson, the US national security spokesperson, revealed that the United States had previously warned Russia about a potential terrorist attack. On the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), Watson stated that intelligence indicated a “planned terrorist attack in Moscow – potentially targeting large gatherings, to include concerts.” Subsequent to this cautionary advice, the US embassy in Moscow issued an advisory on March 7, warning its citizens to circumvent large gatherings due to an impending terrorist threat.
In a televised address, President Vladimir Putin vowed to bring the orchestrators of this heinous crime to justice: “All perpetrators, organizers, and clients of this crime will suffer just and inevitable punishment. Whoever they are, whoever guides them… We will identify and punish everyone who stands behind the terrorists, who prepared this atrocity, this attack on Russia, on our people.”
The investigation by Russian security services is actively ongoing. Information regarding this terrorist act is according to JURIST – News.
