This approach, which evaluates the potential implications of proposed acquisitions on labor, marks a return to the original intent of Congress when creating antitrust and worker-protection laws, according to FTC Commissioner Alvaro Bedoya. “People don’t exist to serve markets. Markets serve people. And so labor market enforcement is very important,” stated Doha Mekki, from the Justice Department’s antitrust division.
