Reflecting upon the emergence of new technologies, FTC Chair Lina Khan has voiced her belief in the necessity for a more vigilant approach from the Federal Trade Commission and other U.S. agencies. In a Centre for Economic Policy Research event, Khan critiqued the “sit back” strategy the agencies previously employed and emphasized a need for an updated policymaking paradigm. This shift, she argues, needs to accurately reflect the realities of this modern, ever-changing world.
Khan further expressed that this administration is keen on revisiting and reassessing outdated assumptions and theories, a lesson gleaned from experiences over the past decades. She commented: “Across the board, there is a realization that we can’t allow that same trajectory to evolve this time around,” suggesting a commitment to more proactive and informed engagement with emerging technologies like AI.
