A lawsuit by the government of Mexico against five Arizona gun dealers, who are alleged to be involved in weapons trafficking, has been permitted to advance by a federal district court judge in Arizona. According to Law.com, U.S. District Court Judge Rosemary Márquez allowed the case to proceed, despite the federal gun industry’s shield law, the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA).
Judge Márquez additionally ruled against the gun dealers’ argument citing that Mexico lacked standing, thereby overcoming another significant hurdle for the case. This move is significant as it aims to address the larger issue of illegal weapons trafficking between the US and Mexico.
It’s important to note that the legal battle is still in its early stages. As the case unfolds, it will be critical to follow the developments closely to see how they could impact future cross-border legal suits and the operation of similar firearms dealers.
