Entertainment Attorney Bryan Freedman Accused of Defamation by Former UTA Affiliate

A recent defamation lawsuit has sent ripples through the legal industry. Bryan Freedman, a renowned entertainment attorney known for representing figures such as Tucker Carlson and Chris Cuomo, has been accused of spreading false statements. The accuser is none other than Michael Kassan, a former affiliate of United Talent Agency Inc. (UTA), the organization Freedman currently represents.

The roots of this dispute trace back to earlier in March when Kassan, who has been described as a media advisor in some sectors, severed his ties with UTA to forge his own path. His departure, however, seems to have been marred by controversial comments made by Freedman. Allegedly, Freedman resorted to derogatory remarks, even going as far as to call Kassan a “pathological liar” to a reporter from Deadline, a comment which was later published on March 25.

This remark forms the crux of Kassan’s defamation complaint that was filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court on the following Thursday. The suit also includes UTA as a defendant, accusing the organization of being complicit in Freedman’s alleged character assassination of Kassan.

In the light of these allegations, pertinent questions arise about the obligations and ethical boundaries of legal representation and the potential consequences of crossing those lines.
