Everything seems to be expanding in Texas, and Biglaw is no exception. Nelson Mullins, a firm that reported a whopping $727,916,000 in gross revenue in 2022, is the latest entrant to the Lone Star legal landscape, opening its second office in the state in Houston, following the establishment of its first Texas outpost in Dallas two years ago according to the reports on the Above The Law website.
The firm’s new Houston office has been staffed by partners who have been drawn from other Biglaw firms. Craig Dillard, co-head of Foley & Lardner’s oil and gas practice in, was appointed as the head of the firm’s Houston office and will also spearhead the local litigation practice group.
The company aims to greatly increase its footprint in Texas. Managing partner Jim Lehman has stated that the firm has “significant clients” in Houston and that it’s in the process of expanding its services in the energy, private equity, and healthcare sectors, according to a report on Reuters.
Although Lehman declined to divulge the identities of these clients, he expressed the firm’s ambition to host a hundred lawyers in Texas within the next three to four years. In an interesting growth trajectory, Nelson Mullins Dallas office has grown from hosting nine lawyers in a single location to facilitating 32 lawyers in two Dallas-based offices.
This is another milestone chapter in Nelson Mullins’ narrative as it continues to extend its presence across the nation. We extend our congratulations to the firm for its new outpost in Texas.
