AI Startup Kili Technology Faces Trademark Lawsuit Over Its Davinci Patent Drafting Tool

AI startup Kili Technology Inc., known for its AI-empowered tool ‘davinci’, which aids in drafting patents and responding to office actions, is now facing legal hurdles. A lawsuit for trademark infringement and unfair competition has been registered against them by Swiss law firm Da Vinci Partners LLC and John Brent Moetteli, its founder.

The suit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, has been registered under the Lanham Act, and Texas common law. The rationale behind the suit is the alleged use of a trademark by Kili Technology in its product, which is being called as an infringement by Da Vinci Partners.

In terms of the claim, Da Vinci Partners and its founder have held U.S. federal trademark registrations for ‘DA VINCI’ and ‘DA VINCI DESIGNS’ since 2010 and 1996 respectively. The firm’s main area of operation is providing information related to patents, inventing processes, and innovative design and engineering.

The ongoing case intends to discuss the fine line between “goods” and “services” in the contemporary digital age where boundaries have enormously blurred, and its impact on trademark laws. A closer look at the complaint reveals further details.

While the outcome of this case could set a precedent for future trademark disputes, it is still in its early stages and will continue to unfold over the coming weeks.
