Spring, the season of rejuvenation and new beginnings, is upon us. Alongside fresh blooms and longer daylight hours comes an eagerly anticipated event within the legal community. Legal news website Above The Law has announced its 15th Annual Law Revue Video Contest. As is tradition, legal professionals and law students are encouraged to send their best law revue videos.
Submissions for the contest should demonstrate a law-based humor alongside an ability to carry a tune. The audience, including the Above the Law team, will judge all videos submitted. Contestants are forewarned that their submissions could elicit multiple reactions ranging from amusement to indifference. The challenge lies in avoiding the harshest feedback that may make the creators wish to retract their creations. Those with the winning video will receive Above the Law prizes and the joy of being the talk of their colleagues. Despite the competition, there are no long-term ramifications – even losers have the consolation of trying again next year.
Before users rush to send their videos, there are rules to be followed. As future members of the legal profession, it is expected that competitors can adhere to these guidelines:
- Videos must be publicly available online. Submission is via a mail with the subject line “Law Revue Video Contest Submission – [School Name]” sent to tips@abovethelaw.com.
- Main performers should be from within the law school community (guest appearances from outsiders are acceptable).
- Submission deadline is Friday, April 26, at 5:00 P.M. Eastern time. No exceptions to this deadline will be considered.
- ATL editors will shortlist and post finalist videos.
- Videos should not exceed 5 minutes.
- Each school can submit a maximum of two entries.
- The funniest video, as chosen by ATL readers, will receive prizes limited to five in number.
Unofficial rules, guided more by commonsense than any hard and fast diktat, also apply:
- Only entertaining and funny videos are expected.
- Concise and engaging videos are preferable over long-winded entries.
- Impressive production values and Above the Law shout-outs are valued.
- Poor quality videos will often not make the cut.
- Submissions should be in good taste without relying on offensive humor.
Submissions for the contest are already being accepted. Here’s to the competition being fiercer and more entertaining than usual. Happy participation to all entrants.
