The forthcoming 2024-25 U.S. News & World Report law school rankings release has run into some snags, leading to uncertainty and raised eyebrows in the legal community. The initial, embargoed rankings divulged to law schools last week were reportedly riddled with errors.
The preliminary rankings were initially set to be shared on Wednesday, but got delayed by a day. Yet, their release didn’t mitigate the clamor but in fact, further fueled the confusion. As highlighted by Paul Caron on his TaxProf Blog, a second version of these rankings surfaced on Thursday. It showed corrections in the standing of 80 law schools, including nine in the top 50, from the originally sorted positions in the April 3 version.
However, not all facts are clear at this stage. The extent of participation by the institutions in the survey that formed the basis of these rankings is uncertain. That said, the official law school rankings are still expected to be released as planned on Tuesday, according to the original report.
