Shearman & Sterling Paris Tax Team Exits for McDermott Amid Allen & Overy Merger

As New York-founded law giant Shearman & Sterling prepares for its upcoming merger with London-based Allen & Overy, it has encountered a significant setback: a highly respected tax team, based in Paris, has moved over to McDermott Will & Emery. Just weeks out from the scheduled merger on May 1, the departure comes at an inconvenient time for Shearman.

The two-lawyer tax team at the centre of this move is led by former Shearman partner Niels Dejean, who has been with the firm since 2002. Accompanying Dejean is Shearman counsel Anne-Sophie Maes. Maes, who has served at Shearman for the past two decades, joins McDermott as a partner.

With this new addition, McDermott’s Paris tax team now comprises of ten attorneys, including four partners, one counsel, and five associates. You can learn more details about this legal industry move over at Law.com: Merger-Bound Shearman Loses Paris Tax Team to McDermott.
