Tesla Inc., an electric car company, has come to bear the weight of an extensive mission – funding Elon Musk’s endeavours. The billionaire mogul’s visions are not merely restricted to Earth, spilling over into a higher calling of colonising Mars. We trace Musk’s intentions back to 2017 when he revealed to a Tesla director his need for billions of dollars. According to Musk, the money was imperative to reduce existential risk and further his aspirations for Mars.
These aspirations, as lofty as they may be, don’t come cheap. As voiced by a Delaware Chancery Court judge earlier this year, the idea of colonising Mars is a hefty endeavour. Musk sees it as his moral duty to funnel his resources into this project, using his compensation from Tesla to finance it.
Matt Levine throws light on this evolving relationship between Musk and Tesla, and Musk’s aspirations of colonising Mars, in his article “Money Stuff: Elon Wants His Money Back“.
Apart from Musk’s Mars aspirations, other primary focuses of today’s financial landscape include the movement of Tesla to Texas, banker breakup fees, Destiny Tech100 and WhatsApp at the SEC.
