Thomson Reuters Expands CoCounsel’s AI Capabilities Across Professional Services

Thomson Reuters is extending the capabilities of CoCounsel, the AI-driven legal tool which was developed by Casetext, a company they acquired last year. In doing so, CoCounsel is being extended beyond legal services and integrated into all professional lines Thomson Reuters serves, including its tax, risk, fraud, and media departments.

Prior to this expansion, CoCounsel was primarily utilized as a generative AI assistant and chatbot within various Thomson Reuters legal products, and as a standalone offering through CoCounsel Core. Both versions leveraged advancements of OpenAI’s GPT-4 language model to deliver unique and powerful legal tech services.

The larger plan outlined by Thomson Reuters includes the introduction of three new skills for legal and tax professionals, both in the U.S and the U.K. This move aims to tap into the growing need for AI solutions across different sectors and bring state-of-the-art, AI-enhanced legal and tax capabilities to all its professional clients.
