Berkeley and Stanford Law Schools Compete in “Order on the Court” Basketball Game for Public Interest Fundraising

In an unusual face-off, Stanford Law School and the University of California Berkeley School of Law met head-to-head on the basketball court. Despite Stanford Law School’s prestigious ranking, Berkeley Law School ultimately reigned with a 53 to 43 win over Stanford in what was the first “Order on the Court” law school basketball game.

The game was more than just a friendly sporting event. Though its outcome held bragging rights, its central purpose was fundraising. All proceeds from the event went towards the Berkeley Law Summer Public Interest Fellowship Fund.

This fund plays a crucial role within the student community, aiming to assist both current and graduating students from both schools. By providing financial support, it facilitates these students in pursuing public interest law careers. It also encourages and enables them to undertake pro bono projects where they can utilise their legal skills in a range of settings, building experiences and contributing to the public good.

While the event may have seen the Berkeley Law School take home the win on this occasion, the real winners were the students benefitting from the fund, and the wider community that will benefit from their skills and dedication.

More detailed commentary around the fundraiser and the schools’ rivalry can be found in a writeup on The Recorder.
