The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) imposed new sanctions on several entities supporting extremists settlers in the West Bank according to a recent report. Among these entities are the Mount Hebron Fund and Shlom Asiraich.
The sanctions have been issued as a response to the suspected involvement of the Mount Hebron Fund and Asiraich in fundraising campaigns supporting Yinon Levi and David Chai Chasdai, both of whom were linked to violent activities in the West Bank. These two individuals had already been sanctioned earlier in February.
In an official statement, the OFAC expressed its commitment to holding those responsible for violent West Bank settler attacks accountable. It emphasized that the recent actions of the Mount Hebron Fund and Asiraich were complicit in supporting individuals previously sanctioned by the Biden administration.
The OFAC’s report highlighted that the fundraising efforts by Mount Hebron Fund and Asiraich raised substantial amounts of money . Mount Hebron Fund collected about $140,000, and Asiraich managed to gather roughly $31,000. Apart from this, additional sanctions were also placed on Ben-Zion Gopstein, the founder of Lehava, an organization linked to violent actions in the West Bank, as designated by the Department of State.
The imposed sanctions aim to block access to any property or interests held by these entities within the U.S. or under U.S. control. Financial institutions and individuals engaging in transactions with these entities potentially face future sanctions or enforcement actions.
