In the face of rising hyperinflation and a depreciating local currency, HSBC has made the strategic decision to exit the Argentina market. With Linklaters providing counsel from their London base, HSBC finalized the decision to sell off its Argentina business.
The buyer, Argentina’s financial group Galicia, was backed by the advisory services of Latham & Watkins. Galicia’s acquisition, amounting to $550 million, marks the transfer of business ownership from the UK-headquartered bank to the local financial group.
While this operation permits HSBC to diverge from the challenging Argentina market, the country, unfortunately, continues to grapple with its towering inflation rates.
