In a recent development, a Dallas County jury ruled against Walker Engineering, an Irving-based company. The firm has been found liable in the case related to the death of a worker on one of its job sites, leading to an award of $71.95 million to the deceased worker’s widow and four children. The victim, Hernan Murillo, 40, of Arlington, was working on a Frito-Lay facility project when the incident occurred on Oct. 4, 2019. He, along with two other workers, was standing atop a scissor lift while trying to install new electric lines.
Attorney Charla Aldous, representing the plaintiffs, stated that a significant challenge in this case was challenging the Walker companies’ use of workers compensation insurance as a shield. This case was not easy to navigate, with nearly 1,000 court filings leading to the final verdict. The hefty compensation signifies the magnitude of the corporate negligence involved and the seriousness of the safety oversight.
