Brooklyn Legal Community Aids Post-Justice Reintegration Through Suit Drive

In a refreshing display of community service, Brooklyn lawyers are assisting individuals reintegrating into society after being involved with the justice system, by providing them with suits. The ongoing suit drive is a testament to the power of a simple garment; not only do suits exude professionalism, but they can also make a significant difference for someone preparing for job interviews or embarking on a new career. As reported by the Brooklyn Eagle, over 50 suits were gathered within the initiative’s first three days.

The effort is led by Michael Farkas and Melinda Alexis-Hayes from the District Attorney’s Office, and includes additional support from legal organizations such as the Brooklyn Bar Association, The Kings County Supreme Court, Brooklyn Defender Services, and the Legal Aid Society of Brooklyn.

Those with spare suits can still contribute to the cause, helping people get back on their feet after an involvement with the justice system. The Suit Drive continues, and more donations are still urgently needed. Not only will donators be clearing out their closets, but more importantly, they will be giving someone else an opportunity to reintegrate into society and redeem their life.

Chris Williams, a social media manager and assistant editor for Above the Law, reported on this initiative in May 2021. He noted how such a seemingly simple gesture can have a profound impact on individuals struggling to regain their societal footing. As law professionals well understand, appearances can indeed make a difference, and so this suit drive in Brooklyn underscores a compassionate collective approach toward reintegration and redemption.
