A Delaware federal judge by the name of Gregory Williams, has once again found himself at the heart of accusations involving an assault on an attorney. The event in question took place more than a decade and a half ago, during a heated argument relating to a political fundraiser at the firm where they both were employed at the time.
This accusation was renewed by Attorney Francis G.X. Pileggi of Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith, as part of his attempt to convince Judge Williams to remove himself from overseeing litigation involving an employment dispute. In his reasoning, Pileggi argued that the supposed encounter has the potential to create an unconscious bias against him or his client. Despite this, Williams has steadfastly denied not only the assault on Pileggi but also the assertion that there is evidence of any bias on his part. Furthermore, he has declined to recuse himself from the case, forcing Pileggi to formally request him to reconsider his position.
For those unfamiliar with Judge Williams, he was appointed by Joe Biden, and according to Bloomberg Law, has been previously accused of assaulting a firm co-worker. The specifics and resolution of this prior accusation are not known.
The law community will be looking closely to see how this situation resolves and if Judge Williams will remain on the case or finally agree to recuse himself in light of the renewed allegations.
