Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. has asked a Texas judge to order Demaray LLC to pay $6.8 million to cover legal fees related to its unsuccessful patent infringement lawsuit focused on the Korean tech giant’s semiconductor products.
According to Samsung’s redacted motion filed on May 3 in the US District Court for the Western District of Texas, Demaray’s conduct during the lawsuit was questionable. The company allegedly changed infringement theories and accused multiple Samsung products before dropping most of them ahead of the trial in February.
The lawsuit, which Samsung decisively defeated, initially had Demaray seeking a whopping $4 billion in damages. However, Samsung argued in its motion that Demaray already knew that the damages sought were not legally supported. Samsung illustrates this as part of its case to recoup the legal fees.
