The Kansas Office of Judicial Administration disclosed on Monday that around 150,000 individuals might have had their personal information accessed during a cybersecurity incident last October that caused the state’s information system to remain offline for several weeks.
Originally, it was presumed that the data breach could affect anyone who had formerly interacted with the Kansas courts. However, after a comprehensive review that concluded on April 23, cybersecurity analysts have estimated that the breached files concern approximately 150,000 individuals.
According to a recent news release, a proportion of the personal data originated from legal documents tied to the Kansas appellate courts, applications to the Kansas bar, and other records maintained by the office. In response to the incident, the authorities have started notifying potentially affected parties.
