Two Georgia poll workers, Ruby Freeman and Wandrea’s Arshaye “Shaye” Moss, who previously procured a $148 million defamation judgment against the former New York mayor, Rudolph Giuliani, have accused Giuliani of further defaming them. Giuliani is alleged to have made new false statements about the pair during a publicly broadcasted livestream in April. These accusations come mere days before the former mayor filed for bankruptcy.
This accusation comes after Freeman and Moss won their defamation suit against Giuliani back in December. Giuliani’s pleas to the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York to allow him an appeal form part of his attempts to reduce or erase the award.
The pair claim that Giuliani’s recent request exhibits not just a flawed litigation tactic, but that he also made false comments about them in the previous month. These comments reportedly accused them of rigging the 2020 presidential election. This is in spite of his loss in the defamation suit and warnings from the bankruptcy court against repeating this conduct.
A spokesperson for Giuliani did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
It has also been reported that a committee of unsecured creditors has also urged the court to deny Giuliani’s motion to pursue the appeal, indicating that this delay is at the creditors’ expense.
Giuliani’s bankruptcy proceedings are currently being contested as he is believed to be missing deadline extensions that he initially proposed. This includes the notice of appeal he filed on Monday of the original award and April ruling.
