Italian Legal Market Heats Up as White & Case and Orrick Bolster Teams Amid A&O-Shearman Merger

White & Case and Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe have recently bolstered their Italian teams with new hires from an associated firm of Shearman & Sterling, just prior to the latter’s merger with Allen & Overy on May 1.

Domenico Fanuele, previously a partner at Studio Legale Associato Shearman & Sterling, officially joined White & Case’s mergers and acquisitions and private equity industry group in Milan on April 30. With a highly distinguished past as the head of Studio Legale’s Rome and Milan offices and the firm’s corporate practice, Fanuele brought a wealth of experience to his new role.

It is noteworthy that these key hirings took place just as Shearman & Sterling announced its upcoming merger with Allen & Overy. The full extent and implications of these shifts in the legal landscape are yet to be seen, however, it underscores an increasing competition among these major law firms, especially in the Italian market.
