Montana Judicial Nominee Faces Uncertain Future Amid Partisan Backlash

The White House nominee Danna Jackson, anticipated to become the first American-Indian judge in Montana’s federal trial court, is currently facing an uncertain future. This follows a lack of consultation with the state’s Republican Senator, Steve Daines who expressed his concerns recently.

In a statement to Bloomberg Government, Daines argued that he was not contacted about filling the vacancy before the Biden administration’s announcement of Jackson’s nomination on April 24. Currently, Jackson serves as the tribal attorney for the Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes.

Daines reported that he found out about the nomination in the same way as the public. He termed this as unfortunate and suggested that the future of the nomination remains uncertain. Regardless, it is crucial to closely monitor the development of this nomination process, given that Jackson’s appointment would mark a significant milestone for representation in the Montana federal trial court system.
