New Jersey’s Bar Examination Pass Rate Hits Record Low, Prompting Concern

The latest data from New Jersey’s Uniform Bar Examination has revealed an unsettling continuation of the downtrend in pass rates. In the most recent tests conducted in February, the success rate plummeted to a mere 32% – the lowest the state has ever seen since 2019. This places New Jersey uncomfortably at the bottom of the national list, sharing its dismal position with Alabama according to figures from the National Conference of Bar Examiners.

This trend, however, does not spell doom for the state or the legal profession according to some scholars. Seton Hall University School of Law’s Brian Sheppard projects that the legal field’s regained popularity and selectivity might trigger an uptick in scores, potentially approaching early 2010s rates.
