Quinn Emanuel Adopts Pre/Dicta’s AI Tool to Forecast Judicial Decisions

In a bid to enhance efficiency and gain strategic insights in litigation cases, law firm Quinn Emanuel has implemented an AI-powered tool from Pre/Dicta, a company that designs technology to forecast judicial rulings. According to the information provided by Dan Rabinowitz, CEO of Pre/Dicta, the said tool bases its predictions on factors like age, gender, education, and net worth of the judges, thereby identifying patterns in decision-making.

Pre/Dicta, established six years ago, is one of many firms that are riding the wave of AI and next-gen technology, offering law firms ways to increase their efficiency and improve their business performance. Their tool will give Quinn Emanuel a broader view of cases as they progress. However, information regarding what Quinn Emanuel is paying for the tool remains undisclosed. Ryan Landes, a Los Angeles-based partner for Quinn Emanuel, and Rabinowitz have both hinted at a substantial contract between the two entities.

Pre/Dicta’s tool is specifically designed to predict conclusions of actions like summary judgment motions, venue transfers, class certifications, among others. According to Rabinowitz’s statement, the tool’s effectiveness has been tested over 50,000 times, attaining an approximate 85% accuracy rate in predicting the results of motion dismissals.

Ryan Landes noted that this kind of predictability could be very advantageous. Accurate predictions about a judge’s tendency to approve a dismissal motion, for example, could potentially change the cost-benefit analysis of bringing the motion. For the time being, the tool is limited to federal court cases and exclusively tracks judges, not juries. It is expected to start functioning in state court cases in California next month.
