Global Infrastructure Partners Secures $3.9B Acquisition of Malaysia Airports Holdings

Highly-regarded law firms Weil, Gotshal & Manges, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, and Wong & Partners, the Malaysian associate firm of Baker McKenzie, have been instrumental in the $3.9 billion acquisition of Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) by private equity fund Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP). The acquisition was part of an offer made by a consortium led by Malaysia’s sovereign wealth fund Khazanah Nasional Berhad and the country’s Employees’ Provident Fund, with the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority also included in the group.

The aforementioned acquisition comes in the wake of GIP’s £1.27 billion sale of a majority stake in Edinburgh airport in April, a transaction that also saw Weil working on behalf of the investment fund.
