Imran Khan Appears Virtually in Supreme Court Amid Corruption Charges and Incarceration

Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan appeared virtually before the Supreme Court of Pakistan from jail, an official “X” (previously Twitter) handle reported. Days after his court hearing, pictures of the ‘illegally incarcerated’ ex-PM were shared on social media platforms.

The appearance before the Supreme Court pertained to changes in the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) law, according to local newspaper Dawn. This event marks Khan’s first appearance in the Supreme Court since his arrest in August and subsequent conviction in the Toshakhana case.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Khan’s political party, has raised suspicions about a visitor ban at the Adiala jail, assuming that the ban could be an attempt to interfere with Khan’s appearance before the court. In a related development, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) recently granted Khan bail in a £190 million case, necessitating further investigation into the allegations.

In the Toshakhana case involving graft charges, the IHC suspended Khan’s 14-year sentence. PTI upheld that the charges were baseless and celebrated the suspension. Nevertheless, Khan remained imprisoned due to other convictions that included the “cypher” case and a marriage law violation, both of which his legal team has since appealed.

As of now, Imran Khan faces numerous corruption charges and has been incarcerated since August last year. The detailed report of these developments can be read here.
