Ex-Payroll Manager Pleads Guilty to Embezzling $2.5 Million from Law Firm

In a significant revelation from Louisiana’s legal industry, an ex-payroll manager of a small law firm has pleaded guilty to wire fraud. Shavonda Chambers, 43, an erstwhile employee of Aaron & Gianna, was indicted in February. Authorities accused her of transferring “reimbursements” to her personal accounts while working for the firm between 2017 and 2023.

Over time, Chambers escalated her illicit activities, taking $10,500 per paycheck and eventually amassing more than $2.5 million from the firm. A substantial portion of these funds were used by Chambers to purchase at least eight new cars, as indicated in her court records.

As reported by NOLA.com, the seven-figure embezzlement was finally pinpointed when Chambers took a vacation and a substitute had to oversee her duties. Following this revelation, Aaron & Gianna initiated a civil lawsuit against their former payroll manager.

Apart from her impending prison sentence, Chambers is indebted to reimburse the funds embezzled from the law firm. Her lawyer assured that she would make the best effort possible to fulfill this financial obligation. The final hearing and sentencing for Chambers’ case is scheduled for September.
