Missouri Man Pleads Guilty to Felony, Misdemeanor Charges in Jan. 6 Capitol Breach

A Missouri man, Kyler Joseph Bard, has pleaded guilty to multiple felony and misdemeanor charges related to the Jan. 6, 2021, breach of the US Capitol, according to a statement from the Department of Justice. Bard, aged 27, admitted to assaulting law enforcement officers and engaging in civil disorder, which are classified as felonies. Additionally, he pleaded guilty to four misdemeanors: unlawfully entering or remaining within a restricted building or grounds, disorderly or disruptive conduct within such areas, engaging in physical violence therein, and committing acts of physical violence on the Capitol grounds.

The charges stem from Bard’s actions during the events of January 6th, where a mob of individuals stormed the Capitol building in an attempt to disrupt the certification of the 2020 Presidential election results. As part of his plea agreement, Bard acknowledged his role in the breach, including his acts of violence against law enforcement officials tasked with protecting the Capitol.

This plea is part of an ongoing effort by federal authorities to hold accountable those who participated in the Capitol breach. Numerous individuals have already faced charges ranging from trespassing to more serious accusations of conspiracy and assault. The Justice Department continues to pursue cases against many who were involved in the events of that day.
