A prosecutor at the hush-money trial involving former President Donald Trump has urged a New York jury to consider what he described as a “mountain” of evidence. According to prosecutor Joshua Steinglass, the evidence shows that Trump aimed to influence the 2016 election by paying adult-film star Stormy Daniels to remain silent about an alleged sexual encounter. The payment of $130,000 was made by Trump’s former attorney, Michael Cohen, just days before the election. Steinglass argued that Trump agreed to reimburse Cohen because he feared the impact of Daniels’ story on voters if it became public.
Defense lawyers, on the other hand, have branded Michael Cohen as the “greatest liar of all time,” attempting to discredit his testimony. Beginning Wednesday, jurors will evaluate a total of 34 business-record counts to decide whether Trump is guilty of the charges.
