Supreme Court Wades Into San Francisco’s Sewage Fight With EPA

The Supreme Court has entered the legal fray between the city of San Francisco and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) concerning the city’s wastewater management and its impact on ocean water quality. According to the city, the EPA’s ocean wastewater permit includes “generic” prohibitions on violating applicable water standards without providing clear guidance on pollution levels that would trigger enforcement actions under the federal Clean Water Act.
