Waste Management Inc., North America’s largest waste recycling firm, has reached an agreement to acquire Stericycle Inc., a prominent player in the medical-waste disposal industry, for approximately $7.2 billion. This acquisition is poised to be one of the largest transactions in the waste management sector, reinforcing Waste Management’s dominant position as the largest trash collection company in the United States.
The Houston-based Waste Management has actively pursued growth through acquisitions over the past several years. Notable recent acquisitions include Anderson Rubbish Disposal and Advanced Disposal, marking a trend of consolidation within the industry.
According to Bloomberg Law, Stericycle had been exploring a potential sale following significant takeover interest. This strategic move will likely enhance Waste Management’s portfolio and expand its market share in the medical waste disposal space, diversifying its service offerings.
