Samsung Electronics has filed for a declaratory judgment seeking a preemptive declaration of non-infringement against Oura Health in the Northern District of California. Represented by O’Melveny, Samsung aims to ensure that its upcoming Galaxy Ring does not infringe on Oura’s patents. In its May 30 complaint, Samsung emphasizes that “each and every time a major competitor has developed and/or released a product that competes in the smart ring market, Oura has filed a patent infringement action against that competitor.” Samsung’s move is a strategic effort to counter what it perceives as Oura’s trend of filing indiscriminate patent claims against rivals in the smart ring market.
