Freshfields Expands U.S. Presence with High-Profile Hires from Davis Polk and Kirkland & Ellis

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, a major international law firm, is further expanding its U.S. corporate practice by hiring two prominent New York lawyers. Jacqueline (Jackie) Marino from Davis Polk & Wardwell joins as a capital markets partner, while Joshua Ayal from Kirkland & Ellis has been recruited as an M&A partner.

These new hires are part of Freshfields’ strategic efforts to solidify its position in the U.S. market, particularly in corporate and M&A sectors, domains where many of its international peers have faced challenges. The firm has been successful in making significant inroads via lateral hiring in recent years and continues this trajectory into 2024.

“What we are trying to build here is something that will sustain generationally,” said Damien Zoubek, Freshfields’ co-head of U.S. corporate and M&A.
