Hueston Hennigan Announces Summer Bonuses From $10,000 to $25,000 Based on Billing Targets

Hueston Hennigan, a prominent Southern California litigation boutique, is distributing summer bonuses ranging from $10,000 to $25,000 to its associates and counsel. Managing partner Moez Kaba communicated the details in an internal email on Tuesday. The bonuses are contingent upon billing targets, with lawyers required to be on track to bill at least 2,000 hours to qualify. Those projected to bill 2,400 hours will receive $20,000, while those hitting the 2,700-hour mark will get $25,000.

The email from Kaba noted that the bonus amounts are designed to reward those who have been contributing significantly due to the demands of their cases. The firm did not provide further comments regarding the bonuses.

Unusually, these bonuses are not dependent on the class year of the associates and counsel and are scheduled to be disbursed in July. This move positions Hueston Hennigan as potentially the first major law firm this year to offer summer associate bonuses—a noteworthy strategy as law firms typically reserve bonus payments for year-end or special occasions during particularly busy periods.

In recent years, boutique firms like Hueston Hennigan have outpaced the established Cravath scale used by larger firms for setting salaries and bonuses. For example, Hueston Hennigan awarded their associates with above-market bonuses in December.

The firm, which has represented high-profile clients including Amazon.com Inc., Tesla Inc., and Peloton Interactive Inc., continues to leverage impressive compensation strategies to attract and retain top legal talent. For more details on the announcement, you can read the original article here.
