The Ohio Supreme Court has ruled that a law school graduate previously convicted of downloading child pornography is allowed to take the state’s bar exam next month. Zachary Charles Daubenmire, who was convicted in 2007, has reportedly made concerted efforts to address the issues that led to his conviction, according to the court’s recent 15-page opinion.
Daubenmire has sought both sex-offender and anger management counseling and made lifestyle changes, such as reducing his alcohol consumption, which were noted by interviewers from the Licking County Bar Association’s admissions committee. Despite a previous recommendation against his approval, the high court was persuaded that he had made significant strides toward rehabilitation.
Currently working as a law clerk at a firm in suburban Columbus, Daubenmire is also eligible to apply to practice law in Ohio. The decision came after a thorough review of his efforts and improvements over the years.
