Philadelphia Mass Tort Cases Over Paraquat Surge by 45% Despite Federal MDL Slowdown

The case count in Philadelphia’s mass tort over the weedkiller paraquat has surged by 45% in the last six months. According to Judge Joshua Roberts, who oversees the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas’ complex litigation center, the mass tort program now includes 728 cases, up from 500 at the start of 2024. This increase comes despite slowdowns in the federal multidistrict litigation (MDL) over the same herbicide. Judge Roberts noted a “consistent increase” in the number of filings related to paraquat.
