State Bar of Texas Partners with Smokeball to Provide Free Trust Accounting and Billing Software to All Members

In an effort to streamline trust accounting and billing for legal practitioners, the State Bar of Texas has announced an exclusive partnership with law practice management company Smokeball. As part of this collaboration, all 111,000 members of the State Bar of Texas will now have free access to Smokeball’s trust accounting and billing software, Smokeball Bill. This initiative is aimed particularly at solo practitioners and small firms, who often rely on manual processes for these tasks, leading to inefficiencies and potential compliance issues.

For more information, Texas bar members can sign up for free access to Smokeball Bill. The software offers a range of features, including customizable invoices, time and expense tracking, accounts receivable monitoring, online payment acceptance, and trust accounting reconciliation. According to Smokeball U.S. President Ruchie Chadha, this initiative will help lawyers efficiently manage their trust accounts, thereby reducing errors and the risk of malpractice claims.

Texas is a mandatory bar state, which means all licensed lawyers belong to the State Bar, an administrative agency that provides educational programs, administers continuing legal education, and manages the attorney discipline system. This makes Texas the second state bar to offer such a benefit, following the Florida Bar’s agreement with Nota last year.

The bar will begin notifying its members of the new benefit immediately and plans to highlight it during its upcoming annual meeting. For those interested in exploring Smokeball’s full suite of practice management tools, the Texas bar has secured discounted pricing for its members through an affinity relationship with Smokeball.
