Top Law Firms Criticized for Extensive Fossil Fuel Lobbying and Transactions in New Report

In a recent report compiled by the activist group Law Students for Climate Accountability, several high-profile law firms have been named among the worst offenders for engaging in fossil fuel-related work. The firms highlighted include Clifford Chance, Linklaters, Allen & Overy, Shearman & Sterling, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Kirkland & Ellis, Latham & Watkins, and Paul, Weiss Rifkind & Garrison. The report finds that these firms, along with others in the top 100 globally, have facilitated $2.89 trillion in fossil fuel transactions between 2019 and 2023, participated in 518 instances of climate-exacerbating representation, and collected $32.97 million for lobbying efforts on behalf of fossil fuel interests.
