McKool Smith has announced mid-year bonuses for its legal staff, with payouts reaching up to $30,000. This initiative aims to reward associates, principals, and senior counsel for their billable work contributions. According to a memo by David Sochia, McKool Smith’s managing principal and chairman, bonuses will be disbursed on June 30 and will be determined based on billable hours, ranging from $2,500 for those billing under 1,900 hours to $30,000 for those with over 2,600 hours.
The assessment period for these bonuses spans from October 1, 2023, through May 31, 2024, calculated on an annualized basis for the fiscal year ending September 30. The memo also highlighted different tiers of bonuses based on the number of hours billed, with incremental amounts for those falling within specific ranges.
This initiative is seen as McKool Smith’s appreciation for its lawyers’ hard work and contributions to the firm’s success. Similar strategies have been noticed in other firms as well, with Southern California boutique Hueston Hennigan recently announcing summer bonuses between $10,000 and $25,000 for meeting billing requirements.
