Princeton Faces Title IX Lawsuit Alleging Gender Discrimination in Disciplinary Process

A recent Title IX complaint has been filed by a freshman at Princeton University against the institution, alleging systemic bias within its disciplinary process. John Doe, represented by Jamie H. Solano of Ford O’Brien Landy, claims the university’s Committee on Discipline (COD) is heavily prejudiced against male respondents in cases brought by female students.

The suit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, includes allegations of breach of contract, gender-based discrimination under Title IX, and negligence. Doe contends that the COD convicted him despite insufficient evidence, pointing to the committee’s historic conviction rate of over 98%, as detailed in the complaint.

The complaint recounts two incidents where Doe was accused of assaulting female peers, with the COD’s investigation described as biased and prejudicial. It also criticizes the disparity in how witnesses were handled and the refusal to consider exculpatory evidence. Jennifer Morrill, Princeton’s director of media relations, stated the university will contest the lawsuit vigorously, asserting the case was handled in compliance with university policy.
