Clearbrief, a legal technology company that leverages artificial intelligence to assist lawyers in identifying and including factual support within their legal writing, has secured an additional $4 million in funding, increasing its total capital raised since its inception in 2021 to nearly $8 million. This funding round, led by Authentic Ventures, How Women Invest, and Reign Ventures, underscores the growing demand for AI solutions in the legal profession. Additional participation came from an investment fund affiliated with the law firm Wilson Sonsini and other existing angel investors.
The CEO of Clearbrief, Jacqueline Schafer, highlighted that the infusion of capital aims to drive the expansion of the firm’s team amid increasing adoption of their product by top-tier law firms. Schafer, a seasoned litigator and appellate lawyer, founded Clearbrief to address the pressing need for efficiency and accuracy in legal document preparation.
Clearbrief’s core product is a Microsoft Word Add-In that streamlines the process of finding, inserting, and verifying facts within legal briefs. It also offers functionality to cross-check factual and legal references in adversary submissions. Schafer envisions a future where the tool becomes integral to every step of legal writing and document analysis, thereby enhancing the workflow for both litigators and in-house legal teams.
Julie Castro Abrams, managing partner at How Women Invest, echoed the sentiment, explaining their investment decision. “We chose to invest in Clearbrief because we heard so emphatically from customers that Clearbrief’s AI tools are making an impact on the day-to-day work of the most sophisticated law firms, distinct from other AI platforms that haven’t yet established their concrete value to litigators.”
This development is part of a broader trend where legal tech firms, underpinned by AI capabilities, are becoming increasingly essential to the operations of major law firms. For more information on this funding round and Clearbrief’s future plans, you can visit the original article here.
