General counsel (GCs) are increasingly vocal about their frustration with law firms’ persistent lack of transparency, particularly concerning billing practices. This opacity is exacerbating the difficulty of justifying substantial outside counsel expenditures within their companies. Firms’ opaque billing methods, which have long been a sore point, are now reaching a tipping point as legal departments face mounting pressure to account for every dollar spent.
