The Biden administration has announced its intention to nominate North Carolina’s Solicitor General, Ryan Park, to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. If confirmed, Park will serve on the Richmond-based federal appeals court, which oversees federal trial courts in Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia.
Ryan Park’s legal career includes arguing before the Supreme Court in 2022 on behalf of the University of North Carolina, defending the school’s affirmative action policies. His professional experience also spans positions at Boies Schiller Flexner LLP and the U.S. State Department. Moreover, Park has clerked for Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and David Souter.
The White House concurrently announced three other district court nominations: Byron Conway for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, Magistrate Judge Jonathan Hawley for the Central District of Illinois, and Gail Weilheimer, a county court judge, for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
