A New Jersey federal magistrate judge has preliminarily approved a class action settlement in multidistrict litigation over allegedly defective synthetic field turf. The plaintiffs, hailing from California, Florida, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, brought the suits against FieldTurf USA, a company based in Calhoun, Georgia.
Between 2005 and 2012, FieldTurf USA installed artificial turf in approximately 1,700 sports venues across the United States, generating $570 million in revenue. Concerns over the turf’s quality led to multiple lawsuits, including half that were class actions. The litigation efforts gained traction following a series of articles published by NJ Advance Media.
