Armstrong Teasdale to Close Three Offices Amid Strategic Consolidation Efforts

In a marked shift from expansion to consolidation, Armstrong Teasdale, an Am Law 200 firm, has announced plans to shutter three of its offices, affecting a substantial number of lawyers and staff. The closures include the firm’s Salt Lake City and Boston offices, both of which were opened in 2020, and its London subsidiary, which launched in 2021. This decision follows Armstrong Teasdale’s gross revenue of $218.1 million in 2023, placing it at No. 160 on the Am Law 200 list.

Richard Engel, the firm’s managing partner, confirmed that the U.S. offices will remain operational until September 30. As reported by Reuters, this move will affect a total of 11 lawyers and 12 business professionals across the Salt Lake City and Boston locations.

Simultaneously, Armstrong Teasdale announced that it would cease financial support for its U.K. subsidiary, which will affect 32 lawyers in London and Dublin. According to the American Lawyer, this decision aims to refocus the firm’s resources on more thriving markets within its existing footprint.

Engel emphasized that these steps are part of a broader strategy to better equip the firm to meet client expectations in a competitive legal landscape. “We thank those affected for their service and wish them the best,” he added, noting that the firm will provide “robust outplacement services” and opportunities for affected individuals to apply for other roles within the firm.
