Cahill Gordon & Reindel is making strategic moves to enhance its private credit practice with the addition of Peter Williams, the former US head of structuring at KKR. Starting from July 15, Williams will join Cahill as a partner and will co-lead the firm’s private credit practice, marking a significant development in the firm’s capabilities in this arena.

Williams brings a wealth of experience from his tenure at KKR, where he progressed from a director to managing director of the credit strategies team, and eventually led the US structuring and credit solutions group. His broad expertise in structuring complex deals and managing credit strategies will be invaluable as he partners with John Papachristos to expand Cahill’s private credit practice.

Private credit has surged on Wall Street, becoming a $1.7 trillion industry as of recent years. This booming market has law firms scrambling to secure top talent to meet rising client demands. The appeal of private credit lies in its use as an alternative to traditional bank financing, attracting substantial interest and investment from various sectors.

Williams’ addition is part of a broader strategy by Cahill to reinforce its presence in crucial markets. Earlier this year, the firm opened a new office in Wilmington, Delaware, focusing on cryptocurrency with three new partners, and onboarded Amit Trehan, a prominent restructuring lawyer from Barclays in the US.

Despite these positive strides, Cahill has experienced some departures, with notable partners Jake Keaveny and Warren Newton set to join Proskauer Rose in London. However, the firm’s proactive hires indicate a strong commitment to maintaining and enhancing its market position.
