Covington & Burling has announced the addition of former federal prosecutor Kristin Mace as a partner in its white collar defense and investigations practice in New York. Mace’s extensive career includes 13 years as an assistant US attorney in New York, culminating in her role as chief of the Eastern District’s criminal division. In this capacity, she supervised over 115 assistant US attorneys and spearheaded high-profile investigations, including significant cases against FIFA executives and members of the Gambino crime family.
Mace’s tenure at the Eastern District of New York (EDNY) began in 2011, where she first served as an assistant US attorney, then advanced to deputy chief and subsequently chief of the general crimes and organized crime and gang sections. In 2019, she became the deputy chief of the criminal division before ascending to chief in 2021.
Throughout her time with EDNY, Mace contributed to several landmark prosecutions, notably the investigation that led to criminal charges against over 50 FIFA officials from across 20 countries. She was also instrumental in securing the convictions of high-profile defendants, including former CONMEBOL president Juan Ángel Napout and former Brazilian federation head José Maria Marin on racketeering charges.
Nancy Kestenbaum, co-chair of Covington’s white collar defense and investigations practice group, highlighted Mace’s robust track record in significant white collar investigations, emphasizing that her “extensive experience as a federal prosecutor adds new depth and capabilities” to the firm.
