Disbarred Cincinnati Lawyer Admits to Social Security Fraud in Shocking Employability Scam

Disbarred Cincinnati lawyer and one time Democratic congressional candidate Richard Crosby has pleaded guilty to three counts of social security number fraud. Crosby admitted to using aliases and falsified credentials to secure employment at various law firms across the United States after losing his legal license.

Crosby’s criminal activities came to light after he was found to have duped a law firm, securing around $83,000 in earnings over a six-month period. Notably, he had falsely claimed to have worked for the prestigious firm King & Spalding LLP to enhance his credibility.

The change-of-plea hearing was initially scheduled for June 25 but was delayed until August after Crosby asserted he was heavily medicated during a hospital visit on the original date. However, prosecutors later revealed Crosby’s hospital story as fabricated, leading to his custody a week later.

The events underscore the importance for law firms to meticulously verify applicant credentials, especially in an environment where fraudulent representations can lead to significant financial and reputational damage.
